Every day ECHO helps someone in need. This includes the mother of three who needed food for her hungry children, or the widow who needed help with basic financial literacy or the young man who needed to get his GED in order to get a job. From food and clothing to basic social services (GED, Healthy Living and Basic Financial Literacy classes, free backpacks and assistance during the holidays), ECHO helps thousands of our neighbors, co-workers and fellow church members get through difficult times. This would not be possible without the support of the community.
ECHO’s 3rd Annual Empty Bowls was held on Saturday, February 7th at St. Andrews United Methodist Church Social Hall, on the corner of Bryan Rd and Bloomingdale Ave. in Brandon.
Please note that ECHO’s 3rd Annual Empty Bowls is a family friendly event which focuses on children. Area schools will participate by creating small ceramic bowls which represent the one in six in our area that face food insecurity every day.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, soup vendors, St. Andrews United Methodist Church, volunteers, Bil Mitchell of Harmonic events, teachers and students who created bowls and all of the residents of the community who supported ECHO’s 3rd Annual Empty Bowls event. Together we can end hunger and food insecurity in Eastern Hillsborough County.
Each attendee will sample some of the tastiest soups made by local chefs, restaurants and culinary students for just $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Attendees will come away with an understanding of the existence of food insecurity and remember this experience each time they look at their wonderfully creative bowl made by area elementary school children.
